The Florida rule of thumb: size by weight, not by volume. Concrete, roof tile, ceramic tile, plaster and rain-soaked yard waste will all hit a weight allowance long before they fill a container. Drywall, timber, furniture, mattresses and cardboard are the opposite — they eat volume and weigh almost nothing.

Choosing a dumpster size
What size dumpster do most people rent?
The 20 yard, by a wide margin. It covers roof tear-offs, kitchen renovations and whole-house cleanouts, which between them account for most residential projects. That said, it is the wrong container for anything heavy.
How do I know if my material is too heavy?
As a rough guide: if it came out of the ground or off a roof and it is made of clay, concrete or stone, it is heavy. Concrete is about 4,000 lb per cubic yard, roof tile and ceramic tile are close behind, and wet yard waste is heavier than you think. Drywall, timber, furniture and cardboard are all light.
Can I change size after I have booked?
Up until the truck is loaded, yes, no problem. If the driver is already en route we may not be able to swap on the day, but we will get the right container to you as fast as we can.
What if I underestimate and fill it too soon?
Call us. We will pull the full container and bring an empty one. It costs more than getting it right first time, which is exactly why we ask questions on the phone rather than just taking an order.
Do bigger containers cost proportionally more?
No. The step up in price between sizes is smaller than the step up in capacity, because a large part of the cost is the truck movement rather than the box. If you are genuinely borderline and your material is light, sizing up is usually good value.
